Let’s get a few things straight.

Indoor Sports Club is a rare capsule of disability history, emboldened by a world that is bent on our erasure.

What’s with the name Indoor Sports?

We ain’t playing sports at this club. The name came about in an era when friends called each other affectionate names like “lad” and “ol’ sport”. The disabled founding members of the club started this in an era when disabled people were publicly referred to as “shut-in”. And given that there were no public places for disabled people to access, this group called one another the ‘inside friends’, aka Indoor Sports.

So, what do you do?

We are a social club, for and by the disabled community.

We throw parties and events that celebrate the disabled identity and elucidate ableism in all its manifestations.

We are currently working on publishing our archives from the last 100 years and preparing our 2024 events calendar. Join us in person every 3rd Friday of each month on our Judy Heumann Memorial Deck & submit your email below to get the latest updates.
